The serpentine belt, also known as the equipment belt, fan belt, and drive belt, is long and passes through multiple pulleys in a winding motion. The belt allows for enough wrap angle across more than three pulleys to prevent slippage; this includes idler pulleys that force the belt into a curved shape by applying pressure from behind.
